Locker Page Speed: Under 2 Seconds Trick

Short answer: Every extra second kills unlock rate — keep download page feather-light.

Speed decides money on locker pages more brutally than anywhere else. A visitor who waited three seconds for the page will not wait thirty more for an offer wall. Every extra second of load visibly cuts unlock rate, which is why the download page must be the lightest page on your whole site.

Current base

This template starts near perfect with about 5KB of CSS and zero frameworks, so your main enemy is what you add later. Skip page builders, social widgets, and five competing ad scripts on the download page. One locker script plus one SmartLink fallback is the entire budget. Anything more trades speed for pennies.

Images

Serve the cover as WebP under 100KB at 800 pixels wide with lazy loading, since it sits below the fold on most phones. Keep total page weight under 1MB including the locker script. Compress every screenshot before upload and never paste raw phone photos. Small images still look sharp on mobile screens.

Scripts

Defer main.js, which is already deferred in this template, and let the locker script load when the visitor clicks Download rather than on page open where possible. Fewer render-blocking requests means faster first paint. Audit quarterly because scripts creep back in silently.

Test

Test with PageSpeed on mobile data and demand 90 plus, then test the real flow: click download, complete an offer, confirm unlock. Lab scores mean nothing if the human flow stalls. Fix the slowest step first, whether it is images, scripts, or the locker provider itself.

Pro tip: re-test speed after every new script you paste — one bad script can halve conversions overnight.

Bottom line: lightest page on the site wins the most unlocks.
